Title: Social Perceptions of Aging
Speaker: Sam Trevino, LCSW

The Baby Boomer Generation is aging, which means our older adult population is growing at a pace larger than all other age groups. Historically, society has held ambivalent views of aging. Among these are many persistent myths that devalue the potential of older adults. This workshop will take a look at the aging process and explore the impact of lingering myths about growing older. This class focuses on healthy aging and how we can redefine what it means to age in our modern society.

Sam Trevino is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 30 years of experience working with older adults, people with disabilities, and family caregivers. Sam earned his Master’s Degree in Social Work from SJSU in 1987, and was licensed to practice psychotherapy in 1990. Sam is currently an adjunct faculty member at CSUMB, where he lectures in the Health, Human Services, and Public Policy Department.
